SERGE SARGSYAN: PARLIAMENT IS NOT FLEXIBLE

RoA Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan, the leader of the Republican Party,
bids for presidency. "My approach is positive. The election showed
that Republicans enjoy vote of confidence. If the party puts forward my
candidature, I will certainly run in the 2008 presidential election,"
Serge Sargsyan said. The Prime Minister does not think there will be
an early presidential election in Armenia.

He made no comment on the National Unity, the People's Party of Armenia
and other forces which lost the parliamentary election. "The Parliament
is not flexible: there are only 131 seats, and the struggle registered
these results," Serge Sargsyan said in answer to journalists' question
    related to the opposition's defeat.

"The more multi-layer the parliament is, the more people will
trust it. We are ready to collaborate with any political party
and individual," he said. To note, Serge Sargyan repeated the same
words three months ago when it was still unknown how many votes the
    Republicans would enjoy.

In Serge Sargsyan's opinion, the elections were conducted with
fabrications and frauds. "Nobody denies that the elections were
flawed and there were shortcomings. Complaints are natural as no
    country has flawless electoral system."

To the question whether the new NA is Russian-oriented, Serge Sargsyan
answered, "I have stated for a number of times that the Republican
Party, personally I consider ourselves as a pro-Armenian force,
    and not a pro-Russian, a pro-NATO or a pro-Western force. We have
always implemented policies on solving the problem of security of our
people, raising the quality of life and we were interested in others'
interests to the degree that our interests interested others. The
Republican Party has always been concerned over public security,
safety and improvement of living conditions."
