RA MILITARY DOCTRINE TO BE ADOPTED BY THE END OF 2008

An interagency commission will be formed in the near future to
start working on the draft Military Doctrine of Armenia, Head of the
Department on International Military Cooperation and Defense Programs
of RA Ministry of Defense, Major-General Mikhael Melkonyan declared
at a press conference today.
General Melkonyan noted that Armenia's Individual Partnership Action
Plan (IPAP) with NATO envisages to adopt the Military Doctrine by
the end of 2008.
"However, we have advanced in accomplishing the provisions of the IPAP,
and I think we shall adopt the Military Doctrine by the end of 2007,"
the representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry declared.
He reminded that the National Security Strategy was also adopted ahead
of time. IPAP envisaged its adoption by the end of the current year.
Mikhael Melkonyan declared that the implementation of the Individual
Partnership Action Plan is very successful. In his words, the main
guarantee of success I s that "this is the program that was needed
for the reformation and modernization of our army, it includes nothing
artificial or binding."
