PRESIDENT OF THE SWISS NATIONAL COUNCIL VISITS RA NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

November 7 Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Tigran Torosyan
received the President of the National Council of Switzerland Christine
Egerszegi-Obrist. The meeting was attended by Swiss Ambassador to
Armenia Lorenzo Amberg.
Greeting the guest, Speaker Tigran Torosyan noted that this high-level
visit will encourage the deepening of relations. Mr. Torosyan
congratulated Mrs.
Egerszegi-Obrist for winning in the parliamentary elections and being
elected the President of the Swiss National Council.
At the request of the guest, Mr. Torosyan turned to the political
developments in Armenia, noting that after restoration of statehood
Armenia is step by step returning to the European family, having
declared the European integration a foreign policy priority.
According to the President of the National Council of Switzerland
Christine Egerszegi-Obrist, the two countries are united not only by
geographical similarities, but also the wish to be independent and
common values. He informed the Armenian Speaker about the activity of
the legislative and executive authorities of the Swiss Confederation.
Mrs. Egerszegi-Obrist said that never being for or against countries
having conflicts, Switzerland emphasizes the importance of their
peaceful settlement and is ready to support the process of overcoming
the conflict through dialogue. Expressing gratitude for understanding
and support, Tigran Torosyan expressed confidence that the difficulties
will be finally overcome and effective cooperation will be launched
in the region.
The meeting later continued in an enlarged format, featuring NA
Vice-Speaker Vahan Hovhannisyan, chairmen of standing committees,
representatives of parliamentary factions.
