    Noyan Tapan
    Nov 8, 2007

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The memorandum on "Cooperation on
European Integration Issues between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania" was signed
on November 8. This information was provided to Noyan Tapan by the
Press and Information Department of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting of Vardan Oskanian and Petras Vaitiekunas, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Lithuania, during which the processes of
natural and dynamic development of the bilateral relations recorded
since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two
countries were referred to, was followed by the signing ceremony.

Vardan Oskanian highly appreciated the current level of the
Armenian-Lithuanian relations. He mentioned that Armenia is interested
in strengthening and developing the political and economical
dialogue between the two countries. Vardan Oskanian declared about
the readiness of the Republic of Armenia for studying the cooperation
possibilities with Lithuania in concrete spheres within the framework
    of the Armenia-EU actions plan.

In his turn, Petras Vaitiekunas mentioned that Lithuania classes the
relations with Armenia among the supremacies of its foreign policy.

According to him, the official Vilnius distinctly imagines the European
prospects of Armenia and will continue to show an active involvement
and support in the countries of the South Caucasus and particularly,
for problems concerning the implementation of democratic reforms in
Armenia, as well as the strengthening of cooperation with NATO and
    the European Union.

The interlocutors also discussed the regional problems, and referred
to the events happening in Georgia. Expressing his concern with the
current tension and attaching importance to the stability of Georgia,
Vardan Oskanian stressed that the development of the cooperation
with the EU and other European structures, as well as the deepening
of integration processes will contribute to the stabilization of the
political systems in the countries of the region and to the formation
of the culture of the power-opposition constructive dialogue.
