SURENIANTS: ECONOMIC SANCTIONS AGAINST OPPOSITION NOT
    NEW IN ARMENIA

In recent days, tax inspections are conducted in
companies belonging to Khachatur Suqiasyan, chairman
of SIL concern, particularly in `Bjni' factory. Some
say this is connected with the fact that Khachatur
Suqiasyan has publicly announced his support for Levon
    Ter-Petrosyan. Panorama.am asked political board
member of Republic Party, Suren Sureniants on whether
their businessmen are also subjected for prosecution.

`I can recall not one but several cases. The chairman
of our political board Aram Sargsyan was the director
of Ararat Cement State factory but when he was
dismissed from the post of the prime minister in 2000,
the authorities did everything so that he does not
work as the director of the factory,' he said also
saying `the acts of the authorities brought to the
point that Aram Sargsyan filed application on his
dismissal in 2001. This was obviously done due to his
    political viewpoints,' he said.
