    A. GEGHAMYAN: AN INTERCONTINENTAL MISSILE VS. A MINE
    Lilit Poghosyan

In an extended chairmanship session held yesterday, "National Hayots Ashkharh Daily, Armenia
    Nov 28 2007

Unity" unanimously approved the "treacherous" attitude of participating
in the presidential elections with a candidate of its own

IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY, SAY IT WITHOUT HARMING THE STATE

ARTASHES GEGHAMYAN had a lot to remind both those who were present
and especially those who were absent, and he did it. In particular,
he said, "For 5 years on end I have been saying all that my colleagues
have mentioned in their speeches; Levon Ter-Petrosyan has plagiarized
the same. There are only 2 new terms they have introduced: 'to
dismantle' and 'a state of chieftains'.

I address my speech to the RPA, 'Prosperous Armenia' and ARFD: do they
admit that they have taken over the leadership of the National Assembly
of a 'state of chieftains'? I address my speech to 'Heritage' and
'Rule of Law': do they admit that they are pro-Opposition fractions in
the National Assembly of a 'state of chieftains'? I address my speech
to Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan: does he admit that he is the
Prosecutor General of a 'state of chieftains'? What about the Minister
of Justice? Does he admit that he is the Justice Minister of a 'state
of chieftains'? And what about the Chairman of the Constitutional
Court? What is the mission of the Constitutional Court of a 'state
    of chieftains'?"

And in general, "if you have something to say, say it to Robert
Kocharyan and Serge Sargsyan; criticize the policy they conduct,
but leave the Armenian statehood in peace! What answer will you give,
should the Turks and Azeris now say, 'Mr. Geghamyan, you were making
high-flown speeches from the tribunals of Strasburg Rotterdam and
Vienna; was it all for the protection of a state of chieftains?' "
the leader of "National Unity" said.

What issues were discussed during the meeting with Serge Sargsyan?

In response to this question A. Geghamyan stated that he had met not
only with S. Sargsyan but also with Robert Kocharyan and a number of
other right-wing and left-wing activists. "As to the first meeting,
it was with Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and the offer was made him and
Babken Ararktstsyan. We met in Babken Ararktsyan's place, but the
press supporting the Armenian pan-National Movement never wrote why
we had met there and not, let's say, in 'Armat' or in the office
of National Unity Party. Whether this doesn't there was some money
bargaining." Whereas the meeting with S. Sargsyan, which was organized
in "Ara M. Minasyan's house," is speculated in an impudent manner.

During the meeting "there was a discussion on the extremely tragic
situation existing in the country as a result of dissidence and
developments fraught with conflicts. I expressed my viewpoints, and
Mr. Sargsyan expressed his viewpoints. The pivotal issue was that
it was necessary to do our utmost to avoid a sudden destabilization
of the situation in the country and prevent our century-old foe from
taking advantage of that" by realizing its ambitions of making Turkey
    the "curator of the region".

Whom will A. Geghamyan support should Serge Sargsyan and L.

Ter-Pewtrosyan appear in the second stage? The leader of "National
Unity" considered conversations around this topic an idle talk,
ruling out any possibility that S. Sargsyan and L. Ter-Petrosyan
may appear in the second stage. "National Unity" will support its
programs and has no doubt that Mr. Geghamyan will be competing with
the pro-Governmental candidate during the second stage.

And after all, why is the public supporting the Armenian pan-National
Movement making a fuss. "Why are they misleading the people? Has
Mr. Ter-Petrosyan advanced his candidacy? Is he sure of his
potentials? Why then is he murmuring that others have not joined
him? Because he understands that the power and the truth are on our
side; that's why he is so embarrassed. They became embarrassed and
offended just because I had never made any negative statement in
their address," the speaker states with astonishment.
