PRIME MINISTER SINIORA CALLS CATHOLICOS ARAM I

Prime Minister Fouad Siniora held a telephone conversation with His Holiness
Aram I on Monday 26 November. The PM briefed the Pontiff on the current
situation, stressing that security-wise the country is peaceful and calm.
Siniora pointed out that while the presidential election was not held as a
consequence of political conflicts, the government is continuing its work.
The PM also expressed concern at inappropriate criticism and baseless
accusations by certain political forces and individuals, observing that such
statements can obfuscate the environment and harm Lebanon's internal unity
    and peace.

The Catholicos stressed the importance of electing a president immediately,
warning that the postponement of the elections can create new problems and
sensitivities in Lebanon, particularly in the Christian community. He also
emphasized the need for electing a president accepted by all sides. He added
that political leaders should refrain from public accusations against one
another in order to preserve internal unity within the country.
