ABU DHABI - The Armenian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will celebrate the
country's 16th Independence Day with a cultural extravaganza week in
the capital and Ras Al Khaimah.

`Taste of Armenia' will be organised from October 20 to 25 under the
patronage of Nani Oskanian, spouse of the Armenian Minister of
    Foreign Affairs Vardan Oskanian.

The programme will include classical and jazz music, dance, art
exhibition and traditional Armenian culinary delights.

The first day of the festivities will take place at the Ras Al
Khaimah's Cultural Centre and it will include concerts by Aramo and
Emma Petrosian - jazz, folk and pop singers; Arman Hovhannisian -
folk singer; Hakob Shirinian and Avetik Gevorgian - classic
violinists; the `Barekamutyun' dance group, performing a mix of
traditional Armenian and other dances, as well as interpretations of
    classical routines.

In Abu Dhabi, the celebrations will start on October 21, the official
    anniversary of Armenian Independence Day.

A reception will be held at the Millennium hotel here, followed by a
violin concert performed by Hakob Shirinian.

Throughout the period, Armenian painter Zara Gasparian will exhibit
some of her works at Millennium's exhibition hall. Member of
Professional Painters of Unesco and the Artists' Union in Armenia,
Gasparian's modern style paintings depict mythical and fantastical
    images.

During October 21-24, the well-established Armenian jazz band `Time
Report' will perform at Millennium's Crystal Bar and all throughout
the week the same musicians will entertain the public in Ras Al
    Khaimah.

Their performances will take place every night at the Millennium
hotel, except for October 24, when they will be on stage at the
    Cultural Foundation.

Armenian food evenings will also be a part of the celebrations at the
Marakesh restaurant (Millennium hotel) from 10 pm on October 22 and
    23.
