    On September 4 in Brussels RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian had
    a meeting with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the Secretary General of NATO.

    At the beginning of the meeting the Foreign Minister stressed the
    importance of the process of accomplishment of the provisions of the
    Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), particularly
    emphasizing the elaboration of Armenia's National Security Doctrine,
    opening of the NATO Information Centre in Yerevan, the process
    connected with establishment of the crisis-management centre in
    Armenia, the legislative initiatives directed at reforms in the
    defense sphere.

    Minister Oskanian highly appreciated the assistance of NATO
    member-states in the accomplishment of the Armenia-NATO IPAP and
    welcomed the decision to appoint a new commissioner for Armenia-NATO
    cooperation.

    The interlocutors turned to the organization of the Armenia-NATO
    political consultations in 26+1 format. In this context the Armenian
    Foreign Minister stressed the importance of holding political
    consultations with the Alliance on issues of foreign policy and
    security.

    Reference was made to Armenia's participation in NATO's peacekeeping
    activity.

    NATO Secretary General presented his assessment of the cooperation
    between NATO and the countries of the South Caucasus preceding the
    NATO summit to be held in Bucharest in April, 2008. The interlocutors
    exchanged opinion on the Kosovo issues, the situation in Afghanistan
    and regional developments.

    At the request of Mr. Scheffer, Minister Oskanian dwelt on the
    negotiations on the Karabakh conflict resolution.
