PRESIDENT ADMINISTRATION DISAPPROVES RAFFI HOVANNISIAN'S INITIATIVE

In the news conference on September 14 the reporters asked the
speaker of the president of Armenia to comment on the initiative of
the Heritage Party, the bill on the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh.
"If I'm not mistaken, a year or a year and a half ago the president
said in an interview with the Slovenian Vega newspaper if the talks
prove fruitless, and it appears pointless to continue the talks, one
of the moves towards protecting the security of the peoples of Armenia
and Nagorno-Karabakh, a political move, might be the recognition of
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic by Armenia," Victor Soghomonyan reminded,
adding that the de facto recognition occurred a long time ago.
"I am sure you know that the president of Armenia was present in the
inauguration of the president of Nagorno-Karabakh. I cannot imagine
a more vivid fact of recognition, of de facto recognition. As to
the bill, I do not think the bill was pertinent, and the defeat in a
separate constituency does not mean they should try to attain advantage
at the expense of Nagorno-Karabakh. I think it cannot be approved,"
Victor Soghomonyan says.
