HEALTH SECTOR TO RECEIVE INCREASED SUBSIDIES NEXT YEAR

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS: Armenia's draft 2008 budget has
earmarked 54 billion Drams for health sector, a 16.5 percent rise
over this year, Armenia's health minister announced last week.
During a meeting with local journalists on Saturday health minister
Harutyun Kushkian said prime minister Serzh Sarkisian had convened a
meeting with top health officials on September 11 to discuss a variety
of health related issues. He said the prime minister had ordered to
release 1 billion Drams for maternity hospitals.
"To improve obstetrical services we need to make a series of radical
steps,' the minister said, adding that apart from promoting higher
birth rates, the step will help also raise personnel salaries and
diminish corruption risks.
