REPUBLICAN PARTY RESPECTS ARF DECISION TO CONTEST PRESIDENCY

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS: Samvel Nikoyan, a senior member
of the ruling Republican Party, said his party respects the decision
of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) to filed its own
presidential candidate.
"Every political party has the right to contest the presidential
elections. The ARF has voiced its decision and it did not come as a
surprise to us,' he said to a news conference today.
Nevertheless, Nikoyan said he could not comprehend why the ARF insists
on being an alternative to both the government and the opposition.
"It is my opinion, if you are in the government (ARF has three
ministers in the Cabinet), therefore you are in the government and
you can not be an alternative to it," Nikoyan said.
