WHETHER LEVON TER-PETROSYAN PARTICIPATES IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OR NOT, RPA CANDIDATE TO WIN: SECRETARY OF REPUBLICAN PARTY OF ARMENIA

ArmInfo. Whether the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan
participates in the forthcoming presidential election or not,
a candidate from the Republican party will win anyway, secretary
of RPA faction Samvel Nikoyan said at today's press-conference in
"Pastarq" club. Commenting on L. Ter-Petrosyan's speech on September
21, S. Nikoyan said that it was an ordinary oppositional speech, which
he expected from the country's first president. However, he does not
admit the part of his speech which concerned the Karabakh conflict
settlement. "What does it mean "I have no solution", then what did
you come with and what has changed in your approaches over 10 years
after your resignation?", S. Nikoyan wonders. "Such statements only
inspire the Azerbaijani authorities and the society", he added.
In view of this, the RPA faction secretary said that even if
Ter-Petrosyan decides to take part in the presidential election,
it will hardly change something in the present alignment. "When
electing a president, the voters take into account his fidelity to
principle, while in case of Ter-Petrosyan, what one can talk about
if his approaches to the Karabakh problem are defeatist, moreover,
he sent his resignation under pressure of "certain forces". I think L.
Ter-Petrosyan's resource has already exhausted", S. Nikoyan said.
