WATERTOWN - St. Stephen's Armenian Elementary School students joined
the rest of the country in voting for Sen. Barack Obama for president.

St. Stephen's students in kindergarten through grade five participated
in a mock election on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and voted by an overwhelming
    majority to elect Obama.

This is the third time students have participated in a mock
    presidential election at St. Stephen's.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to understand the
election process," said Heather Krafian of the school's education
    committee.

Krafian, who coordinates the mock election, noted that "while students
may not be able to cast an actual ballot, they can participate in
    our election."

Krafian also said that last month, students read books and talked
about the election and the candidates as well as some of the issues
    facing the country.

Asked what he thought of the day's elections, fifth-grade student
Varak Mouradian said, "it was really cool to get a second chance
to cast a ballot in the St. Stephen's voting booth." Mouradian also
participated in the school's 2004 mock presidential elections.
