Going against the USA is equal to sentencing itself to death penalty

    [translated from Azeri]

Those who speak about the pressures that Azerbaijan is facing over the
Nabucco [gas pipeline] probably mean Russia. Russia really wants
Azerbaijan's disagreement for the realization of the project and
problems for the Nabucco project. However, I think Azerbaijan will
never accept Russian proposals, political analyst Vafa Quluzada said
in a comment on opinions voiced at the latest parliament session
    regarding pressures on Azerbaijan.

Deputy Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov has said that Azerbaijan is facing
pressures over the [Nabucco] project, however, Baku remains committed
to its principles. The deputy speaker has not named the country that
is exerting pressure. Quluzada said the USA is currently the world's
superpower. In such a moment if Azerbaijan joins hands with Russia and
goes against the USA, it will lose: Russia has already lost and will
continue losing till the end, little [time] left. But Azerbaijan
should not take such a step. I think Azerbaijan demonstrates correct
position by cooperating on Nabucco project and it will remain in this
    position till the end.

The political analyst has no doubts that Russia will apply pressure on
Baku: The first pressure mechanism is about the Nagornyy Karabakh
issue. As they get furious on Azerbaijan, they create tension on the
cease-fire zone and our villages come under fire. Afterwards, reports
were spread that Armenian families are being relocated to Nagornyy
Karabakh from other countries. Additionally, some Russian political
analysts say the settlement of the Nagornyy Karabakh issue is
impossible. They want to say that our lands will always remain under
control and Armenia will own it at the end.

Quluzada does not suppose that pressures by Kremlin could force Baku
to retreat: If there was an attractive path leading towards Russia,
Azerbaijan could probably take that path. Because there are many
pro-Russian people in Azerbaijan. But there is no path leading towards
Russia. Russia has nothing to offer for help. Russia's population
escapes around the world. Ten million Russians have already left the
country. Capital in the country is invested in US banks rather than in
Russian banks. Oil and gas resources rescue Russia at present. As a
former superpower, Russia was unable to go against the Baku-Ceyhan
[oil pipeline]. It [Russia] could ignite the Karabakh war at that time
and could destroy the pipeline. As you saw, Russia who entered into
Georgia had no courage to occupy Tbilisi. Russia cannot dare to go
against the US global strategic plans. Therefore, Azerbaijan should
not dare to move against the USA.

The political analyst said Azerbaijan's tough position against the
West was not normal: The reason is that the West puts forward a number
of requirements before Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani officials really want
the cooperation to be built on Azerbaijan's desire, meaning that we
provide oil and gas, create business opportunities, support the
operations in Afghanistan and the USA should not want anything from
us. However, as the USA remains to be the only superpower in the
world, it puts forward new requirements. The USA used to cooperate
with anyone and could turn a blind eye to anything. It wasn't calling
the countries to be like itself. However, they have requirements now.
We have no capacity to say deal with your own business. The USA
announces that human rights is not a domestic issue of any country.
This means that human rights concern the world community, the USA and
international organizations. New concept that will allow a NATO
soldier to intervene in any country is being developed. We live in a
different world but mentality of many people remains as before. Libya
and Syria lessons should be learnt. Look, independent states and
Americans have no right to intervene according to international norms.
However, NATO bombed Libya, destroyed its army and Qaddafi
disappeared. Even though it's against the international law, even with
the request of Arabs the USA goes for it. The world has already
changed. Therefore, going against the international community means
sentencing itself to a death penalty.
