TARON MARGARYAN REPLACES KAREN KARAPETYAN IN YEREVAN MAYOR'S POSITION

According to Article 48 of the Law "On Local Self-Governing Bodies
in Yerevan", after resignation of Karen Karapetyan, Vice Mayor
Taron Margaryan has been appointed Acting Mayor of Yerevan before
the elections of the new head of the Yerevan Municipality. Karen
Karapetyan sent in his resignation on October 28.
According to the Law "On Local Self-Governing Bodies in Yerevan",
the snap elections are held not later than a month after the mayor's
position becomes vacant. The Council of Elders of the Municipality
has the factions of the Republican Party of Armenia with 35 members
and the Prosperous Armenia Party with 17 members.
Karapetyan intends to move to Russia, where, according to Armenian mass
media, he may be appointed Deputy Chairman of Board of Gazprom OJSC.
