ARMENIA IS CONCERNED IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PEACE AND STABILITY IN SYRIA SOONER AS POSSIBLE: HRANUSH HAKOBYAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 29, ARMENPRESS: The Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan
had a briefing with " Armenians today" electronic newspaper covering
the issues on the current situation in Syria, the problems Syrian
Armenians living there are facing.
Mrs Hakobyan states that all the Armenians around the world are anxious
on the current state of their compatriots living in Syria. The high
ranking official notes Armenia is concerned to establish stability
and peace in Syria as soon as possible, Armenpress reports.
" According to our information about 60 thousands Armenians are
living in Syria, basically in Aleppo, Lattakia, Kesab , Damascus ,
Tartus. Armenian community of Aleppo is the main colony, there are
the traditional parties, Armenian Church dioceses, various benevolent,
youth, women and other organizations. Our schools, cultural centers,
newspapers, organizations are making a great job for the preservation
of Armenian identity, cultural values" Hakobyan noted.
To the question whether Syrian Armenians are enjoying their dual
citizenship institute right, Minister was quoted as saying" We inspire,
encourage our compatriots to get a dual citizenship, if we compare
the data of 2009 and 2012, the number of dual citizenship has become
fourth times more. There is such a tendency towards Syrian Armenians".
In accordance with the data of 2010 over 9 thousand 087 citizens have
turned to the Passport and Visa Department of Police, 422 out of all
applications are handed by Syrian Armenians. When drawing a parallel
between the data of 2010, a growth has been recorded in 2011. 14
thousand 277 citizens have applied, still 2 thousand 983 from Syria.
During the period of 2012 January-May 2 thousand 669 applications
were handed over from our compatriots living in Syria.
The Diaspora Ministry of the Republic of Armenia, in cooperation with
the passport and visa department of the Police, State Migration Service
of Ministry of Territorial Administration implements registration of
our compatriots arriving from Syria, aimed at verifying the needs of
each and citizen and family.
