PHILIPPE LEFORT: "NAGORNO KARABAKH CONFLICT IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM NOT ONLY FOR AZERBAIJAN, BUT ALSO FOR THE WHOLE REGION"

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA. Chairman of the State Committee for
Deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov has met with the delegation
led by the European Union Special Representative for South Caucasus
Philippe Lefort, the State Committee told APA.
The meeting focused on the prospects of development of the bilateral
relations, issues on Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Hasanov spoke about history of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, work done
for the solution of social problems of refugees and IDPs. He noted
that Azerbaijani government has spent $5.4bn on the solution of
the problems of refugees and IDPs. 78 modern settlements have been
constructed for refugees and IDPs, nearly 150,000 refugees and IDPs
live in these settlements: "Armenia's aggressive policy was condemned
in the decisions and resolutions adopted by several international
organizations. It was demanded to withdraw Armenian armed forces from
our occupied territories and to restore the right of the refugees and
IDPs to return home. Unfortunately, Armenia ignores the demands of the
international community. All these demands are simply on the paper,"
he said.
Noting that the Azerbaijani government is developing program of "Great
Return" of internally displaced persons to Karabakh, chairman of the
committee said embassies, international organizations and government
agencies have been involved in the development of this program.
Giving information about the visit to Azerbaijan, Philippe Lefort
said he will hold a number of meetings. Philippe Lefort said he is
informed about Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its
consequences, noted that one in every 10 persons in Azerbaijan is a
refugee or IDP.
"This conflict is a serious problem not only for Azerbaijan, but also
for the whole region. EU is ready to help solve the conflict in the
short run," he said.
