His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian
Prelacy of Canada and Prelacy Executive Council met with sister
    organizations.

Representatives from the ARF Central Committee, Armenian Relief
Society, Homenetmen, and Hamazkayin Regional Executives took part in
this meeting to discuss matters and issues related to the Armenian
    Community of Canada.

The main topic however, revolved primarily around Armenian National
Education in Canada, and accordingly, Prelacy Armenian National
Education Council representatives and Mr. Hagop Boulgarian, Sourp Hagop
Armenian Day School's principal, were also present at this meeting.

Prelate Hagopian spoke about the urgency and importance of Armenian
National Education, which encompasses every aspect of being Armenian
and goes beyond educational institutions and text books.

In turn, Dr. Garbis Harboyan, vice-chairperson of the Armenian
Prelacy's Executive Council, presented the different issues related
to Armenian National Education. In his presentation Dr. Harboyan
stated that "the foundation of a nation is its language, which is the
major difference between different cultures, and helps propagate the
    existence of a people.

When a language is no longer spoken or used, it eventually dissipates
and dies. The eradication of a people's language leads to the
extinction of that nation," stated Dr. Harboyan.

The representatives of the organizations and institutions present at
this meeting shared their concerns, as well as suggestions. At the
request of His Eminence, a conference on Armenian National Education
is being planned for spring 2009.
