Armenian Genocide: Armenians mourn victims of Armenian Genocide
April 24th 2010 Posted at General

The Armenian Genocide also known as the Armenian Holocaust, the
Armenian Massacres and, by Armenians, as the Great Crime refers to the
deliberate and systematic destruction or genocide of the Armenian
population of the Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I

April 24 2010 is the tribute day of the Armenian Genocide victims. The
world spread Armenians honor the memory of the not guilty victims who
were killed in their own mother country as a result of the genocidal
policy of the Turkish authorities. There were an expected two million
Armenians people living in the Ottoman Empire on the evening of WWI.

The word genocide assumes maximum importance for the Armenian
residents who want Turkey to acknowledge that the massive killing that
took place several decades back was a massacre. The president of
Armenia, Serzh Sarksyan said that the country is still willing to
    resume peace process.
An estimated 1.5 million Armenians were killed or died between 1915
and 1923 of starvation from the epidemics that swept through the
concentration camps, according to the Armenian National Institute, a
nonprofit `dedicated to the study, research and affirmation' of the
    genocide.

Armenians are trying to create pressure on the US government to use
the word genocide to commemorate the anniversary of the massacres.
However, it seems unlikely given the fact that The USA is not likely
to alienate Turkey which is a member of NATO.
