Turkey initiative to mark Gallipoli battle on April 24 to fail - Armenia MP

    13:41, 16.01.2015

YEREVAN. - Turkey's initiative to mark the 100th anniversary of the
Battle of Gallipoli on April 24 of this year will be unsuccessful
because this battle is not much known to the world, whereas the
Armenian Genocide--whose centenary will be commemorated on April 24 of
the current year--is a crime committed against humanity, and it is a
target of great effort for all humanity.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Artak Zakaryan, who is also
Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign
Relations, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, Armenia has no need to respond to such cynical actions
    and moves by Turkey.

"The plan [by Turkey] to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of
Gallipoli on April 24 aims to deviate the international community's
attention, and continue the policy of Armenian Genocide denial.

"Second, the battles in Gallipoli began on March 18, 1915, and
continued until January 1916. With the plan of marking that day on
April 24, the Turks, naturally, will attempt to hamper several events
aimed at holding the centenary of the Armenian Genocide," Zakaryan
    said, in particular.

During his recent meeting with the president of Azerbaijan, Turkish
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had announced that events devoted to
the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli will be held in
Turkey on April 24 of this year, and that leaders from numerous
countries will be invited to attend these events.
