BUNDESTAG PRESIDENT PRONOUNCES "GENOCIDE" AND CALLS ON TURKEY TO FACE OWN HISTORY

YEREVAN, APRIL 24, ARMENPRESS: The President of the German Bundestag
Norbert Lammert called the events of 1915 genocide. Armenpress reports
that a plenary session is being held at the moment at the Bundestag of
Germany, the first issue in the agenda of which is the discussion of
the new resolution, recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman
Empire in 1915.
Norbert Lammert opened the session, who called genocide the historical
events of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire.
"Genocide deserves severe punishment. It is characterized as an
extermination of the national, ethnic racial and religious group. That
is what happened before the whole world, and it was genocide, which
was not the last in the 20th century. Based on their own experience,
the Germans call on the others to face their history, even if it is
painful. It is the condition for reconciliation between the Armenian
and Turkish people. Germans as well had their share of the guilt, who
placed the alliance with the Ottoman Empire above the human lives",
- said the President of the German Bundestag.
