KREKORIAN ASSIGNED TO CRITICAL POSITION
IN MEETING CALIFORNIA'S BUDGET CHALLENGES
Assemblymember Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank) was appointed to the
Assembly's Budget Committee this week by Assembly Speaker Fabian
Nuñez. Krekorian will serve on the Budget Committee's subcommittee
that deals with California's transportation and information technology
needs.
"California has woefully neglected its transportation and information
technology infrastructure for decades, and this neglect is sapping our
economic vitality, degrading our environment and significantly harming
our quality of life," Assemblymember Krekorian said. "I'm grateful that
the Speaker has entrusted me with this important position, and I will
fight to ensure that California responsibly invests in its future."
Krekorian's assignment to the powerful Budget Committee significantly
enhances Southern California's ability to receive its fair share of
state funding for mass transit, highways and local streets and to
relieve traffic congestion and gridlock. In addition, Krekorian will
have the opportunity to shape policy and budget priorities relating to
telecommunications and other information technology infrastructure that
is so vital to the knowledge-based industries of the 21st Century,
including the entertainment industry.
At a time of tremendous state budget challenges, this appointment means
Krekorian will be uniquely situated to work on solutions that are
fiscally responsible and reflect the priorities and values of
Californians. Krekorian is the only member of the Assembly serving on
both the Budget Committee and the Appropriations Committee.
Assemblymember Paul Krekorian (D-Burbank) represents the cities of
Burbank and Glendale, and the Los Angeles communities of Atwater
Village, Los Feliz, North Hollywood, Silver Lake, Toluca Lake, Valley
Glen, Valley Village and Van Nuys.
