    WEBSITE REPORTS INCREASED SECURITY IN ARMENIAN CAPITAL


    20 February: The Armenian government has decided to step up security
    at the presidential residence and parliament anddeployed an armoured
    personnel carrier and a vehicle with a hank of barbed wire at the
    back entrance of parliament earlythis morning.

    Traffic police cars are active on the patch between the presidential
    residence, parliament building and the"government quarter". APCs of
    the interior troops have also been noticed on the main streets.

    Armenia held a presidential election on 19 February. According to
    preliminary reports from the Central ElectoralCommission, the
    authorities' candidate [Prime Minister] Serzh Sargsyan leads in the
    polls. The opposition led bythe first Armenian president, Levon
    Ter-Petrosyan, alleged mass irregularities. The opposition is set to
    stage a rallyin the afternoon of 20 February.
