OSCE chairman-in-office Ilkka Kanerva expressed satisfaction with the
position of the leadership of unrecognized "Nagorno Karabakh
Republic" on the Karabakh conflict settlement.

"I have just met with the political leadership of the so called
"Nagorno Karabakh Republic" and I can state my satisfaction with that
they adhere to the peaceful resolution of this conflict", Kanerva
told reporters Tuesday following a meeting in Yerevan with the
president of the so-called "Nagorno Karabakh Republic" Bako Saakyan.

He said OSCE has not only its special representative on the Karabakh
conflict settlement. There is also a Minsk Group, small in number,
but politically significant. "We attain definite results by means of
these structures", the OSCE chairman-in-office said.

He noted that he has met with President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan,
Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan, other officials and the problem of
Nagorno Karabakh was one of the important issues on the agenda of
    these meetings.

"For me, as the OSCE chairman-in-office, it was important to visit
Armenia and Azerbaijan and familiarize with the Nagorno Karabakh
problem from one and the other side. Finland as a country, chairing
in the OSCE, is striving for the constructive settlement of this
    problem", Kanerva noted.

He said OSCE is interested not only in the sonnest possible
resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem, but also the assistance to
democratic processes in the whole region of the South Caucasus.

"When the situation with presidential elections in Armenia turns to a
past, we will have a good cause for growing optimism around the
Karabakh problem", the OSCE chairman-in-office added.
