OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs appeal to Armenia and Azerbaijan to restore
    confidence

    2008-03-07 20:00:00

ArmInfo-Turan. OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmen on Nagorno-Karabakh Yuri
Merzlyakov, Bernard Fassier and Matthew Bryza came out with a joint
statement appealing to Armenia and zerbaijan to restore the cease-fire
    regime and mutual confidence.

The document sent to Turan news agency says that the OSCE MG deeply
regrets over the tragic human losses on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict's
front line. The co-chairs appeal to the conflicting parties to restore
confidence along the conflict line and abstain from further
confrontation, escalation of violence and militant rhetoric. At the
moment, on the front line the cease-fire regime is restored and the
situation is calm. The co-chairs urge the parties to strictly adhere to
the terms of the cease-fire agreement dated Feb 4, 1995.

The co-chairs reiterate that the conflict cannot be solved by means of
war. This outburst of hostility is destabilizing the whole region and
may have unpredictable consequences for all involved parties. The
present human casualties have proved that the parties must urgently
reach agreement on the peaceful continuation of their talks with the
mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group. The co-chairs urge Armenia and
Azerbaijan to redouble their efforts to observe the basic principles
for the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict presented
to the parties before the meeting of the OSCE FMs that took place in
Madrid in Nov 2007 and to urgently start the process of drafting peace
agreement. The co-chairs confirm their support for the territorial
integrity of Azerbaijan and that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is the
    subject of the talks.
