ARMENIAN-UKRAINIAN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS HAVE 90 YEARS' HISTORY

    Noyan Tapan
    April 4, 2008

YEREVAN, APRIL 4, NOYAN TAPAN. The exhibition that opened at the RA
Foreign Ministry on April 4 is dedicated to the 90th anniversary
of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and
the Ukraine. The archives materials presented at the exhibition,
as Matenadaran Deputy Director Vardan Grigorian said, make only a
trifling part of documents related to Armenian-Ukrainian relations.

    V. Grigorian said that Armenians first settled in Kiev in the 11th
century, then moved to Lvov, where in the 14th century there was
already a large Armenian colony. According to him, Armenians took
an active part in Ukraine's economic, political, and cultural life,
    fought against that country's enemies.

According to Gegham Gharibjanian, the RA Deputy Foreign Minister,
Armenia's diplomatic relations with the Ukraine were established in
1918, as far back as before the establishment of the First Republic.

Konstantin Yeliseyev, the Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, was
also present at the exhibition's opening. He had brought copies of
nearly thirty documents related to the history of Armenian-Ukrainian
    relations.

As Noyan Tapan correspondent was informed by Galina Kolesnichenko,
the Secretary for Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs of the Ukrainian
Embassy in Armenia, the exhibition is mobile and it will be moved to
    Georgia from Yerevan.
