OFFICIALS TO HOLD ARMENIAN GENOCIDE COMMEMORATION FRIDAY

    Belmont Citizen-Herald
    April 14 2008
    MA

State Sen. Steven Tolman, D-Brighton, Belmont's representative in
the Senate, along with state Rep. Rachel Kaprielian, D-Watertown,
and others, in conjunction with the State House Commemoration
Planning Committee, will host the 93rd Anniversary Commemoration of
the Armenian Genocide at the Massachusetts State House. The event
will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, in the Chamber of
the House of Representatives, and will be followed by an informal
    reception in Nurse's Hall.

This year's keynote speaker will be Nancy Kaufman, Executive Director
of The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston. The JCRC
is an umbrella for 42 Jewish organizations and also serves as the
public affairs arm of Boston's Jewish Federation, Combined Jewish
Philanthropies (CJP.) Ms. Kaufman holds a Bachelor's Degree from
Brandeis University; a Master's in Social Work from Boston College,
and a Master's in Public Administration, Kennedy School of Government,
    Harvard University.

The commemoration ceremony traditionally honors survivors of the 1915
Armenian Genocide and their families with individual Proclamations
from the governor. As in past years, the day of tribute will also
feature several significant musical selections performed by the Erebuni
Armenian Chorus of Greater Boston, conducted by Maestro Artur Veranian.

Each year, April 24 is marked by hundreds of thousands of people
around the world in recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

Events like this one at the Massachusetts State House remember the
lives of those who perished in the genocide as well as acknowledge
the spirit and resilience of the Armenian culture.
