Former Armenian premier's brother released from prison

Yerevan, 11 September: The decision to release [on 10 September] Armen
Sargsyan on parole proceeds from the requirements of Armenia's
legislation, an MP from the faction of the Republican Party of
    Armenia, Rafik Petrosyan, has said.

He said this while commenting on the release on parole from custody of
Sargsyan who is the brother of Armenian [former] Prime Minister Vazgen
Sargsyan killed in the 1999 terrorist attack in the Armenian
    parliament.

Armen Sargsyan has served time in prison on suspicion of organizing
the killing of Tigran Naghdalyan, the director of the council of
    [Armenian] Public TV and Radio.

Petrosyan said that Armen Sargsyan could be released from prison early
taking into account his good behaviour. The MP also presented another
explanation for what had happened. "If Armen Sargsyan had health
problems, then his release on parole was justified," the MP said.

For her part, a representative of the faction of the opposition
Heritage party, Zaruhi Postanjyan, said that she had met Armen
Sargsyan in the Kosh correction facility a few months ago. "The
decision to release Armen Sargsyan on parole is a political
decision. A legal decision was made which proceeds from the
requirements of Armenia's legislation," Postanjyan said.
