ArmInfo. Ending of the battle actions in Nagornyy Karabakh put a full
stop in the Karabakh conflict, Russian political expert, Academician
Araik Sarkisyan told journalists in Yerevan today.
'The war fixed the existing borders and I don't understand what
compromises to Azerbaijan they speak about, as in case of making
compromises and ceding territories we shall draw the front line closer
to Armenia and the NKR. And if the Armenian diplomacy cannot preserve
what to had taken from Azerbaijan at the cost of our blood, that is
its problem but not the problem of the whole Armenian people. And I
say this as ex-commander of the Karabakh self-defence detachment',
- he said.
Sarkisyan thinks that today in the negotiating process they speak
about mutual compromises, and in case of Armenia and the NKR it is
quite clear as the formula 'status instead of territories' is still
being used in the process. 'But I don't understand what Azerbaijan
can cede to us except the foggy pledge to hold the referendum on
self-determination of the people of Karabakh', - Sarkisyan concluded.
