    ARKA
    Nov 24, 2008

YEREVAN, November 24. /ARKA/. A monument to the Armenian dram opened
Saturday opposite the head office of the Central Bank of Armenia
    (CBA) in Yerevan.

Congratulating those present on the opening of the monument, the
premier says it stands for Armenia's independence.

In his turn, CBA Chairman Arthur Javadyan said the Armenian dram
was put into circulation in a hard period for the newly independent
Armenia, adding the dram has proved to be a strong currency.

The bronze monument on a stone pedestal symbolizes the strength of
    the Armenian dram.

According sculptor Eduard Shakhikyan, it took five months to build
    the monument.

The Armenian dram was officially recognized the national currency of
    Armenia on November 22, 1993.
