The authorities should provide sufficient information to media in such
issues of vital importance as the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Hakob
Avetikian, the editor of the Azg newspaper, expressed such an opinion
at the December 24 press conference. He said that though in 1997-98
Azg never permitted itself such expressions as "Levon sells Karabakh"
and similar expressions, nevertheless President's Spokesperson of
that time Levon Zurabian invited him to the presidential residence and
showed him a document. Studying it H. Avetikian understood that no one
is going to sell Karabakh in spite of the talks about it. And today,
according to Azg's editor, there is no normal cooperation between
the authorities and media in the respect of foreign policy coverage:
    "the situation is rather deaf."

Aram Abrahamian, the editor of the Aravot daily, in his turn,
said that since 1992 considerable difference is noticed in Armenian
and Azeri media's working style when covering the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict. "Our officials keep secret negotiations' contents, and Azeris
start commenting upon it right and left and do it in a peculiar way. As
a result Azeri information is more often published in our newspapers,"
    A. Abrahamian said.
