Oqtay Atakhan: "It is a Palestinian party, which is responsible for
    tensions in the Near East"

    06 January 2009 [11:04] - Today.Az

Day.Az interview with leader of Humanistic party of Azerbaijan Oqtay
    Atakhan.

    - Who do you think is to be blamed for the next round of tensions in
    the Gaza strip?

    - It is obvious for any normal and reasonable person that it is the
Palestinian side, if more exactly, its bellicose and aggressive wing
    - HAMAS, which directly binds itself to Islam, that is to be blamed
for the recent tensions in the Near East. It was HAMAS which
violated the established peace agreement and first sent rockets
against peaceful Israeli settlements. Well, Israel just responded to
    this.

I will not speak in details about the history of this issue, though it
    is also evident.

I will not say that this land is a native land of Jews and that
restoration of the Jewish statehood in this land is fair and legal.

I will not say that both Palestinians and provocators and war mongers
of the Arabian world, that once did not agree for a piece of a pie and
demanded the whole pie and then paid for it, are to be blamed for the
    current quo status.

I will not say that there are more Azerbaijanis in Israel than among
    Palestinians.

I will note the other matter. I am not too young and I have been
watching this conflict for long. And you know, Palestinians,
especially their leadership, their aksakkals and intellectuals, remind
me of Hayes, those Hayes, who have been creating provocations, taking
revenge against civilians, women, children and elderly person and then
started to weep about the atrocities of some nation against them.

The mentality of "our" Hayes is similar if not identical to the
Palestinians. Is it by accident? Perhaps, no.

I do not rule out their national kinship, as I do not rule out the
national and genetic kinship of Azerbaijanis and Jews. The matter is
not that being aware of the history, the real history, not a mythical
one, any Turk, any Azerbaijan, any ar, must base on these historical
criteria and principles and stand to protect Jews, adhering to
national-historical and not religious criteria of their belonging.

The matter is elementary justice. For even if we do not have any
national and genetic kinship with the Jews, it is obvious that justice
is on their side. Acting against this real justice, against our
national and genetic kinship and adhering to some secondary factors,
which is the false "Islamic kinship" in our sympathies and
antipathies, we act like the Christian world, that supports an
aggressor in case of our conflict in favor of their Christian-clerical
interests and equals him to a victim.

In this case, why should we be offended by the Christian world
community?... We are no better than them!

    - How do you think this stage of the conflict will end?

    - I think that everything must end rather sooner than later with the
restoration of the Jewish statehood and there will be too equal
states: Israel and Palestine on this land. Good will, primarily, of
Palestinians is needed for this process to end successfully.

We can use this model in the future as the ultimate variant regarding
our native lands - former Irevan province. Our statehood must be
established in the territory of the present-day Armenian Republic, at
least, in a form of such a model, even in 2,000 years. It means that
it could be one of the variants of our return to our native lands,
which have been granted to Hayes, who are aliens on our native
    historical lands.

Ideally, there must not be any territorial alien enclaves, such as the
so-called "Armenian Republic" between Turkey and present-day
    Azerbaijan.

    - How would you comment on the statement of Turkish Prime Minister
Recep Tayyip Erdogan who said Israeli leadership bears
responsibility for the inhumane termination of the population of
Gaza strip, which will result in the self-termination of the Jewish
    state?

    - You know I do not want to comment on the statement of this
wirepuller. I think time will come and the real pals of this
clerical politician, who pulled Turkey 20 years back, as compared to
    what had been before him.

There is the real truth, which says that for clericals there are no
national interests, for them there are religious interests. And in
this case, "the religion" of this intriguer prevailed over their
    Turkic origin.

I am really sorry about our brothers - the citizens of Tirkey, who
could prefer the power of this clerical intriguer.

    - We have already witnessed sharp anti-Israeli statements of Iran. Do
you think the consolidation of efforts between Turkey and Iran in
    the Israeli issue is possible?

    - The fact that Iran holds the externally clerical but in fact
anti-Turkic policy, has become obvious long before. But it is
strange to me why Turkey takes a role of a poppet in this
    anti-Turkic global political game.

I have always said that the future of not merely Azerbaijani-Turkic
nation but the overall Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan lies in the
fraternal union with Israel. If there is such a union, there will
immediately appear a real perspective of the soonest transportation of
this geopolitical axle into the leading world axle center of the
    planet.

    - How should official Baku act in this issue?

    - The position of official Baku today is quite shattered due to some
well-known military and political problems. Therefore, it would be
undesirable to display our real sympathies and antipathies.

Considering the current state of our country and the current state
interests, it would be more expedient to adhere to the position of a
reconciler between the two conflict parties and of a delicate balance
between the two parties. In fact, this is being done, though the role
of a reconciler should be intensified.

As for our national intellectuals, politicians and scientists, no one
has a right to prohibit them to openly voice their sympathies towards
the justice of Jews and regret about irrational self-terminating
    policy of the Palestinian government.
