ACTING ASSISTANT SECRETARY JEFFREY FELTMAN CONTACTS
HIS HOLINESS ARAM I AFTER THE VISIT OF THE US DELEGATION TO SYRIA

On Sunday 8 March 2009, His Holiness Aram I received a telephone call from
the Former Ambassador of the United States to Lebanon H.E. Jeffrey Feltman.
The Former Ambassador is currently in Washington responsible for Middle East
Relations, and he was a member of the U.S. Delegation visiting Damascus. He
first apologized to the Catholicos saying that given their very short stay
in Lebanon he could not visit him personally, but wanted to inform his
Holiness of the new results of the meeting. The Ambassador spoke with great
satisfaction of Lebanon recovering its sovereignty. He also informed His
Holiness of the new approach adopted by President Barack Obama regarding the
    Middle East.

His Holiness Aram I welcomed the multilateral approach in foreign policy by
the new administration, because multilateralism guarantees dialogue and
mutual understanding. He also assured Former Ambassador Feltman of the
determination of the Lebanese to defend the specific Lebanese values
together, and informed him particularly of the constructive role of the
Armenian Community in defending the unity and integrity of Lebanon.
