    INFLATION PEAK IN ARMENIA REGISTERED IN DEC 2004


    YEREVAN, JANUARY 10. ARMINFO. The peak of inflation in Armenia came to
    Dec 2004 - 2.3%. In Yerevan the index was 2.1%.

    The National Statistical Service of Armenia reports that in Oct-Dec
    2004 inflation was 3.3%. Alcohol and cigarettes grew in price by 3.5%,
    nonfood commodities by 0.2%, service tariffs dropped by 0.3%.

    In Dec 21004 the consumer price index was 102% which is 6.6% lower
    than in Dec 2003. The index of food prices (alcohol and cigarettes
    inclusive) was 102.8%, of nonfood commodities 100%. of service tariffs
    100.5%. In Jan-Dec 2004 the average monthly growth of consumer prices
    was 0.2% which is 0.5% lower than in 2003. The consumer price index
    was 107% during the period with 109.9%, 100.6% and 101.5% for the
    indices of food, nonfood prices and service tariffs respectively.

    In Dec 2004 food prices grew by 3.8% due to 37.6% rise in the prices
    of fish, 7.9% of fruit, 18.3% of vegetables, 11% of eggs, 1.8% of
    dairy, 1.7% of meat. Bread prices fell by 0.3%. Alcohol and
    cigarettes did not change in price.

    Nonfood prices grew 0.2% due to 4.3% rise in the prices of fuel and
    liquified gas. Petrol got 0.1% cheaper, Diesel fuel 5.2% more
    expensive. As against Dec 2003 the indices grew by 14.9% and 32.8%
    respectively.

    Service tariffs dropped 0.3%. In transport the index dropped by 1.1%,
    in air transport by 2.5%, in education, communication, recreation and
    communal economy by 0.7%-0.2%. In health care, catering, culture the
    index grew by 0.2%-7%. In banking and legal advising it remained the
    same.
