"It is necessary to rule out any possible armed way of the resolution
of the Karabakh conflict", considers state secretary of the German
    Foreign Ministry Gernot Erler.

"The German government assists to the negotiation process on the
resolution of the Karabakh conflict and our efforts are aimed to
assists its resolution", assured Erler Monday at a press conference
    in Yerevan.

The state secretary is visiting Armenia March 29-31. The visit
envisions Erler's meeting with Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan,
speaker of parliament Ovik Abramyan, vice speaker, chairman of the
Armenian-German deputy group of friendship Arevik Petrosyan.

The state secretary noted that the many-year attempts to settle the
conflict, based on such principles of international law, as principle
of territorial integrity and right of nation for self-determination,
are not so effective and "more practical approaches to the negotiation
process" aimed to overcome differences of the sides and reach
    agreement.

Erler noted that the conflict settlement requires attainment of
compromises in the negotiation process. The state secretary informed
that during his regional visit he will make his proposals regarding
the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

"Though we state that the meetings on the level of presidents are
effective, it is necessary to prepare the public for compromises. There
is no place for populism and propaganda here- we need to think of
peace and the region, its future and have a political courage to
    assume this responsibility", announced he.
