    Armenian police follows up violation reports in municipal council
    voting in Yerevan

    YEREVAN, May 31. /ARKA/. Armenian Police follows up the reported
    violation cases in the municipal council voting in Yerevan. The cases
    are under control of the Police; circumstances are being established,
    say the police report.

    The outcome of consideration of the complaints will be reported later.

    The Oppositional Armenian National Congress reports numerous cases of
    violations in the municipal council vote in Yerevan. The Congress
    recorded 30 violations in the election process by 12:15 local time.

    City Council elections are held in Yerevan today with 771,500 citizens
    having the right to vote.

    This is the first City Council elections in the history of Yerevan.
    Under the new law about local government of Yerevan, the City Council
    is to have 65 members. Number one in the list of the party that gained
    absolute majority in the council automatically becomes Mayor of Yerevan.

    Party-ticket voting is to be used for the election of the Municipal
    Council. Six political parties participate in the election - 3
    coalitional parties (Republican Party of Armenia, Prospering Armenia
    and Orinats Yerkir), Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutiun,
    People's Party and Labor Socialist Party of Armenia and one political
    block ` oppositional Armenian National Congress. `0'
