Congressmen Pallone and Kirk call for establishing Armenian-Turkish
relations on basis of truth
WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 4, NOYAN TAPAN- ARMENIANS TODAY. The Co-Chairmen
of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Representatives Frank
Pallone and Mark Kirk expressed their reservations regarding recently
initiated protocols on the normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations on
August 31 by the Foreign Ministries of Turkey, Armenia and Switzerland.
On September 3, calling into question Turkey's goals, they stressed
that Ankara has begun to speculate the normalization of
Armenian-Turkish relations delaying the lifting of its 16 years illegal
blockade of Armenia. The Asbarez daily reported this citing the report
of ANCA.
They also expressed their concern regarding the pre-conditions of
Turkey criticizing especially the condition of creating a commission
for discussing the historical issues, adding at the same time that the
Nagorno Karabakh conflict should not be linked, either with the
Turkey-Armenia relations.
Pallone and Kirk announced that at first Turkey should lift its illegal
blockade and should be ready to establish normal relations with Armenia
based on truth, justice, peace and cooperation.
To recap, that earlier this week, Congressman Adam Schiff has also made
such a statement.
