AZERBAIJAN VOTED FOR AND ARMENIA AGAINST GEORGIAN-PRESENTED RESOLUTION IN UN

Baku - APA. UN General Assembly adopted the draft resolution entitled
"Status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia,
Georgia and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia", APA reports
    quoting Novosti-Gruziya agency.

The draft resolution was initiated by Georgia within the framework
of the article "Protracted conflicts in GUAM area and their influence
on the international peace, security and development" and adopted by
a recorded vote of 48 in favour to 19 against, with 78 abstentions.

The resolution recognized the right of return of all internally
displaced persons and refugees and their descendants to their
homes throughout Georgia and that underlined the urgent need for
unimpeded access for humanitarian activities to peoples residing in
all conflict-affected areas in that country.

Before the vote, Russia's envoy to the UN Vitaly Churkin said the
document had political motives. He proposed discontinuation of the
    discussions and vote.

"Georgia's draft has nothing to do with the elevated humanitarian
goals and concerns that its authors state," he said.

Churkin's proposal and amendments were not supported.

Azerbaijan voted for and Armenia against the resolution.
