    TURKISH MINISTER, FRENCH SPEAKER DISCUSS REGIONAL DEVELOPMENTS

    Ankara, 16 September: Turkey's foreign minister and the head of
    the French Senate met in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Wednesday
    [16 September].

    During his meeting with the president of the French Senate, Gerard
    Larcher, at Ankara's Hilton Hotel, Turkish foreign minister said that
    Turkey appreciated the recent measures taken by French authorities
    against terrorist organization PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party].

    Commenting on relations with Armenia, Davutoglu said that Turkey
    expected the normalization of its relations with Armenia, as well as
    the termination of the invasion in the Azerbaijani territory.

    Davutoglu said France could have a remarkable contribution to both
    issues.

    During the gathering, Davutoglu also briefed Larcher on his recent
    talks in Iran and the latest developments in Syrian-Iraqi relations.

    Regarding Turkey's EU membership process, the Turkish foreign minister
    said that there were many cooperation opportunities between Turkey
    and the union.

    Davutoglu said that Turkey was a part of Europe and this situation
    was a historical reality that would never change.

    Larcher said in his part that the French Senate supported the opening
    of new chapters in Turkey's EU negotiation process.

    Larcher also said that his country expected Turkey to carry on with
    reforms.
