RIGA AIRPORT TO BECOME TRANSIT POINT FOR ARMENIA: LATVIAN PRESIDENT

After Latvia signs the Schengen Agreement, Riga's airport could
become a transit point for Armenia for flights to Europe and
Scandinavian countries, said Latvian President Valdis Zatlers at
today's Armenian-Latvian business forum.
During his address, the Latvian president emphasized the importance of
working with foreign partners. "There's wonderful potential in Armenia,
from which can stem new ideas for strengthening mutual relations,"
said Zatlers.
According to Zatlers, the signed agreements between Armenia and Latvia
can become a new stimulus for the development of bilateral relations.
Referring to their interests in Armenia, the Latvian president pointed
out woodworking, energy, finances and tourism, in particular.
According to him, the activities of Latvian pharmaceutical and
foodstuffs companies are particularly effective in Armenia.
Furthermore, Latvia also has an interest in construction. "Latvia's
construction companies are searching for new partners," noted Zatlers,
adding that today there exists 64 joint Armenian-Latvian companies.
