"The United States hopes for quick progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict settlement," U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip
    Gordon said.

"We are actively engaged on Nagorno-Karabakh issue and we are actively
engaged in the OSCE Minsk Group. We think this is mutually important
and I do hope that we can make progress very soon on it. It is
    important to us," Gordon said.

The Assistant Secretary stressed that the United States stands ready
to help in any way that it can.

"There are some basic understandings of the basic principles that would
be necessary to resolve this conflict, and I believe all of the parties
would benefit if there were a resolution of the conflict," he said

On December 15th, Mr. Gordon participated in Senate Foreign Relations
Committee Hearing on "The Lisbon Treaty: Implications for Future
Relations between the European Union and the United States".

The Assistant Secretary stressed that South Caucasus, Middle East,
Iran's nuclear program and other regional problems - are one of the
    directions of US-EU cooperation.
