TURKISH JOURNALIST: US CONGRESS' RESOLUTION ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IS A SWORD OF DAMOCLES HANGING OVER TURKEY'S HEAD

ArmInfo. The US Congress' Resolution on the Armenian Genocide is
a Sword of Damocles hanging over Turkey's head, Kadri Gursel, a
journalist of Milliyet said in Yerevan, Thursday.
However, the journalist thinks that this "sword" will continue hanging,
and even in case Ankara fails to ratify the Armenian-Turkish Protocols,
the US Administration will not adopt such a resolution.
Gursel thinks that this a mechanism of US pressure on Turkey. On the
other hand, there is pressure by Azerbaijan and Turkish society.
It is hard to predict the settlement of this problem, he said, however,
he supposes that Turkey may ratify the Protocols proceeding from other
factors. At the same time, he pointed out that the ratification of
the Protocols shouldn't allow Armenia to "feel free in the Karabakh
problem".
Editor of CNN Turk Ferhat Boratav thinks that if the bilateral
Protocols will be ratified, this may slow down, but not suspend
completely the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by
various countries and organizations.
