MASIS MAILYAN: DEFENSE ARMY OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH IS MORALLY AND PHYSICAL READY FOR REBUFFING ANY AGGRESSION

ArmInfo. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is being protracted because
of the inefficiency of the settlement methodologies adopted by the
mediators and the polarity of the positions of the conflicting parties,
Chairman of the Public Council for Foreign Policy and Security of
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Masis Mailyan said during a roundtable today.
A serious mistake was committed when the Soviet Union collapsed:
only one subject was recognized - Azerbaijan - instead of two ones -
Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh. This mistake has not been corrected
to date.
Today, Azerbaijan is suggesting either autonomy for Nagorno-Karabakh
or war. In fact, Azerbaijan is suggesting war either today or later as
the history has shown that Nagorno-Karabakh's being part of Azerbaijan
ends in a war. There is also the example of Nakhijevan, where Armenians
were forced out of their homes as a result of Azerbaijan's consistent
efforts.
The Defense Army of NKR is morally and physical prepared for
rebuffing any aggression but Stepanakert wants the conflict to be
resolved peacefully. If the precedents of Kosovo, Abkhazia and South
Ossetia were applied in Nagorno-Karabakh, the peace talks might take
a different turn. If the United States, Russia and the European Union
recognize NKR, the international settlement parameters will change
and NKR and Azerbaijan will have similar statuses and will probably
be able to cooperate and even to build good neighbor relations.
