    Sat 27 February 2010 | 07:40 GMT Text size:

Andrey Nesterenko Russia consequently supports the peaceful resolution
of the Karabakh conflict, it is actively involved in the mediation of
    the OSCE Minsk Group.

At a briefing today, official of the Foreign Minister, chief of
department of information and press of the Russian Foreign Ministry,
Andrey Nesterenko, was asked about the 18th anniversary of
Azerbaijanis' genocide in Khojaly, committed by Armenian armed forces
with a special cruelty on 26 February 1992, as well as Russia's
    position on this issue.

"Certainly, we know that on February 26 Azerbaijan commemorates those
who died in the result of the tragic events of 1992, when hundreds of
people, mostly civilians, were killed by militants in Khojaly city of
Nagorno Karabakh. These tragic events that occurred 18 years ago
cannot repeat again. Russia regrets over the victims of the Khojaly
    tragedy.

Russian officials are taking part in memorial events dedicated to this
tragedy. We consider the use of force against civilians, elderly
people and children to be inadmissible. Russia consequently supports
the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict, it is actively
involved in the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group, high ranking
Russian officials take direct part in the negotiation process over the
search of solutions that would be acceptable for the conflict
    parties".
