Muslim Congressman Explains Yes Vote For Genocide Recognition

YEREVAN (Novosti-Armenia), March 14'The only Muslim Congressman on the
US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, Keith Allison,
explained why he voted for the adoption of the resolution on the
Armenian Genocide.
According to the newspaper `Chorord Ishkhanutyun,' Ellison said that
his decision is not directed against the Turkish people and that he
respects the Turkish diplomacy.
`I understand that my voice can disappoint you, and so I am saddened,'
said Ellison.
Ellison addressed his colleagues and urged them to look at their history.
At the end of his statement, the congressman turned to the Armenians
and said that Americans recognize the Armenian Genocide and will
always remember and honor the memory of those killed during that
crime.
Turkey strongly resented the fact that a Muslim congressman voted for
the adoption of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide.
