Sargsyan's policy "has failed" - Armenian opposition

The Armenian opposition has issued a statement demanding that
President Serzh Sargsyan step down and early presidential elections be
    held in the country.

President Sargsyan's decision to suspend the ratification of Armenian-
Turkish protocols designed to normalize relations between the two
countries "confirms the bankruptcy of his initiative-driven policy,"
the opposition Armenian National Congress said in a statement.

"After being caught in a web of his own 'initiative' policy, as well
as in light of obvious failures, Sargsyan is no longer able to
neutralize the damage caused by his policy," the congress said.

"On one hand, suspending the ratification process, and, on the other
hand, expressing their readiness to continue it, the authorities
effectively confess that they have found themselves in a deadlock,
that they have no further plan of action, and that they are busy
making unproductive efforts to save face before their own people and
the international community through unprincipled and inconsistent
    half- measures," it said.

"The only possibility to stop this vicious process involves the
resignation of the current authorities and the formation of a
legitimate government through early elections," the congress said.

The opposition congress, which is led by Armenia's ex-President Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, favors normalizing relations with Turkey, but it is
opposed to the creation of a commission of historians in compliance
    with Ankara's demands.

The congress states that this measure calls into question the Armenian
    genocide.
