PRESIDENT OBAMA BREAKS HIS PROMISE TO RECOGNIZE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE, AGAIN!

President Barack Obama walking to the White House.

Scott ApplewhiteDuring the 2008 presidential campaign, President Obama
stated unequivocally that the Armenian Genocide was an historical
fact. Yet, when a House of Representatives panel passed a statement
recognizing the Armenian Genocide, he was pointedly silent.

When Turkey recalled its ambassador to Washington in response to the
passage of the resolution, Secretary of State Clinton indicated that
full House would not consider the resolution.

April 24 is traditionally the day of the remembrance for the horrible
events of 1915 when 1.5 million Armenians were massacred by the
Ottoman Empire. While some Turks were indeed killed by Armenians,
the Turkish response was to uproot a whole region of all its Armenian
inhabitants and march them through the deserts of Syria, where at
just one site, Deir Zor, more than 400,000 died. The events were
chronicled by contemporary historians and diplomats. In August 1915,
The New York Times repeated an unattributed report that

'the roads and the Euphrates are strewn with corpses of exiles,
and those who survive are doomed to certain death. It is a plan to
    exterminate the whole Armenian people.'

The US Ambassador to Turkey Morgenthau wrote in a report,

'When the Turkish authorities gave the orders for these deportations,
they were merely giving the death warrant to a whole race; they
understood this well, and, in their conversations with me, they made
no particular attempt to conceal the fact...'

It is really not necessary to repeat the details of these atrocities.

On April 24, 2010, President Obama issued a statement, which in
    part read:

'On this solemn day of remembrance, we pause to recall that ninety-five
years ago one of the worst atrocities of the 20th century began. In
that dark moment of history, 1.5 million Armenians were massacred or
marched to their death in the final days of the Ottoman Empire.'

President Obama pointedly refused to use the word genocide. In
contrast, in the short video that follows, he stated clearly that he
recognized the events of 1915 as a genocide. The relevant statement
appears about 35 seconds into the video.
