FORMER OSCE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE TO THE SOUTH CAUCASUS INTENDS TO STUDY KARABAKH PEACE PROCESS

ArmInfo. On May 19 Speaker of the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh
Ashot Ghulyan received Maurice Bonneau, former OSCE Special
Representative to the South Caucasus and currently representative of
the Institute of Democracy and Cooperation, who came to the NKR on May
18 to participate as an international observer in the parliamentary
    election on May 23.

As the NKR parliamentary press service told ArmInfo, Bonneau said
that in addition to implementation of the observation mission, he
intends to study the Karabakh peace process as a conflict expert. He
said that his key goal at the Institute of Democracy and Cooperation
headed by Natalia Narochnitskaya is studying frozen conflicts in the
post-Soviet area. Bonneau added that he has already visited Abkhazia,
Transdniestria, Georgia as an OSCE observer and intends to pay a
visit to South Ossetia as well.

For his part, Speaker of the NKR Parliament Ashot Ghulyan pointed
out that Nagorno-Karabakh is constantly interested in authoritative
European and international structures' participation in observation of
the elections held in the country at various levels. "Certainly we are
well aware of the negative attitude of our opponents to the election
process in Karabakh. Unfortunately, some international structures
sometimes support Azerbaijan's position, and the impression is that
they lack their own opinion",- said Ghulyan.

During the conversation, Bonneau asked Ghulyan about the order
of holding of the parliamentary election, as well as about the
Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict settlement process, and other issues
on which Ghulyan gave quite detailed explanations.
