SARDARAPAT BATTLE VICTORY WAS THE "YES" TO OUR SURVIVAL AS A NATION

On Sunday 30 May, following the Divine Liturgy, a requiem service was held
at St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral (Antelias), in memory of the
martyrs of the battle of Sardarapat 21-29 May 1918. Sardarapat was the
battle of the Caucasus campaign of World War I, where Armenians stopped the
Turkish advance into the rest of Armenia.

In his homily, the celebrant Very Rev. Yeghishé Manjikian honored the memory
of the martyrs who died for the nation. At the end of the liturgy and the
requiem service, His Holiness addressed the people and said: "The battle of
Sardarapat was the expression of the will of Armenians to safeguard their
national spiritual and cultural values on their own land. The celebration of
Sardarapat on 28 May every year, strengthens the members of the brotherhood
of the Catholicosate of Cilicia, and the Diaspora in their resolve to say
'no' to acts that would compromise the history and just cause of the
    Armenian people".
